Set up GitLab

Beta: inspect and import visible Text values and metadata-only protected/masked/hidden/File variables, then push to a gitlab.com project or group scope. Pipeline evidence remains pending.

1. Create the token

Use a GitLab token with API access and a role that can manage CI/CD variables on the selected project or group.

2. Identify resources

Choose a project or group and an environment scope. Protected and masked flags are configured per target.

3. Preview before writing

GitLab variable values are not imported.
Protected variables are treated as metadata-only.
Preview remains names-only before a manual run.

Role-aware setup

Admins connect. Everyone can follow the guide.

Organisation owners and admins can store or rotate provider credentials. Members and viewers can use this guide and ask an admin to complete the connection.
